Vanessa Hummel

Vanessa is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, Accredited Nutritionist and Accredited OPTIFAST® VLCD™ Healthcare Professional. Vanessa is also a member of the Dietitians Association of Australia. Her qualifications include;

  • Master of Dietetics, Monash University, 2017
  • Master of Human Nutrition, Deakin University, 2012
  • Bachelor of Science majoring in Biochemistry and Pharmacology, Monash University, 2010
  • Diploma in Children’s Services, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, 2005

Vanessa is passionate about ensuring that her patients receive advice tailored to their individual needs and personal goals. She has a special interest in food allergies and intolerance’s, irritable bowel syndrome, malnutrition, oncology support and women’s health. Being a qualified early childhood educator, she is also passionate about paediatric nutrition, in particular promoting healthy eating habits so that these can continue throughout adolescence and adulthood.

Vanessa’s approach is patient-centred and evidence-based. All her recommendations are made on current nutrition science and scientific research. Vanessa believes that making simple and realistic lifestyle changes achieves both a healthy body and healthy mind. She also believes fad diets and calorie counting hinder rather than assist in weight management and achieving and sustaining healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

Vanessa also Mentors Dietitians who are provisionally accredited to move through to full accreditation as part of the Accredited Practising Dietitian Program. She thoroughly enjoys her mentoring partnerships and finds supporting and assisting her Mentees in developing their knowledge and skills and moving forward in their profession as a Dietitian incredibly rewarding. She also values these partnerships as they provide her with the opportunity to also build on her own knowledge and skills.

Vanessa is dedicated to her continued professional development and ensuring she keeps up to date with current scientific research and evidence. She has completed additional training and study in areas including;

  • Fertility and pregnancy
  • Gut health and the gut microbiome
  • Inflammation and nutrition
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • The low FODMAP diet
  • The Mediterranean diet
  • Mindful eating
  • Nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics and epigenetics
  • Very low energy/calorie diets (VLEDs)/(VLCDs)
